How to use the CPS test

  1. Pick a test length. The default is 5 seconds.
  2. Click (or tap) inside the box. Your first click starts the timer and counts.
  3. Keep clicking until the time runs out. The box shows your live count and the bar along the bottom shows the time used.
  4. Read your CPS. If it beats your best for that length, it's saved as your new best.
  5. Click the box again after a second to retry, or press Restart to clear the current run.

How the CPS test works

The test counts a click the moment the button goes down, not when you let go. That's when the press really happens, so how long you hold the button doesn't matter. The clock uses your browser's high-resolution timer (performance.now()), which is precise to about a millisecond or better.

Your score is simple arithmetic: clicks divided by seconds. Any click after the time is up is thrown away, even if the screen hasn't caught up yet. After a test ends, the box ignores clicks for one second so a late click doesn't start a new run by accident.

Everything runs in your browser. Best scores stay in your browser's storage on this device and are never sent anywhere.

Which test length should you pick?

Short tests (1 to 5 seconds) show your top burst speed. Longer tests (30 to 100 seconds) show how well you hold a pace. Each length keeps its own best score, so you can track both.

Clicking techniques

Some game servers have rules about clicking methods and auto clickers, so check them before you rely on one. Want to test your other button or your keyboard? Try the Right Click CPS Test or the Spacebar Clicker.

Frequently asked questions

How is CPS calculated?

Divide your total clicks by the test length in seconds. For example, 50 clicks in a 5-second test is 10 CPS, and 250 clicks in a 30-second test is about 8.33 CPS. The result shows two decimal places.

When does the timer start?

The timer starts on your first click, and that click counts. You don't lose time moving your mouse into the box, and clicks that land after the time is up are ignored.

Does the CPS test work on a phone?

Yes. Each tap inside the box counts as a click, and double-tap zoom is turned off in the box so fast taps aren't lost. Every finger that touches the box counts as a separate tap.

Where is my best score saved?

Your best score for each test length is saved in your browser's local storage on this device. It isn't uploaded anywhere. Private browsing or clearing site data removes it, and the Reset best scores button clears it at any time.

Can a faulty mouse change my CPS?

Yes. A worn switch can register one press as two clicks, which raises your score without you clicking faster. Check your buttons with the Mouse Test, which flags unwanted double clicks.

What is the difference between CPS and APM?

CPS counts mouse clicks per second, while APM (actions per minute) counts every click and key press per minute. Use the APM Test to measure both together.
